Scientific Workflows & Data Management

Large collaborative projects often require coordinated integration and processing of complex data through multiple pipelines. These pipelines may share common components but must operate effectively in different contexts and use cases. CAC consultants work with researchers to build and support workflows for data integration, management, and downstream analysis, aiming to automate processing in high-throughput scenarios.

Digital Agriculture

  • MyCow$ - created a decision-support tool that provides real-time estimation of individual cow profitability.
  • CAST/Farm of the Future – developed software solutions to integrate data from the Cornell Agricultural Systems Testbed and Demonstration Site (CAST) for the Farm of the Future.
  • Dairy Profit Monitor – created a business analytics database with a web-based tool for dairy farmers to input operational data, improve efficiencies, and optimize profitability.

Astronomy

  • SCiMMA: Multi-Messenger Astronomy Infrastructure - developing a cloud-based messaging system that coordinates low-latency, distributed workflows across multiple scientific teams and instruments around the world.
  • NANOGrav - built a robust data management system that automatically collects, organizes, and archives data from multiple radio telescopes. The system shares datasets for processing and ensures that final data products are accessible to the scientific community.
  • Fred Young Submillimeter Telescope - contributing to the development and analysis of data pipelines and workflows for the Fred Young Submillimeter Telescope located in Chile's Atacama Desert, at 18,400 feet. The telescope will see first light in 2026 and further insights into the structure of the universe.

Chemistry & Chemical Biology

  • ACERT Web Server – collaboratively designed, developed, and supported a web server for interactive data processing and visualization, including front-end interfaces, backend infrastructure, and implementation of ACERT’s custom algorithms for signal denoising and reconstruction.
  • ACERT Instrument Control - developed control software for 95 Ghz spectrometer used in protein structure and dynamics research. This work included communicating with new devices that required updated workflows, migrating to new hardware with different operating systems, and updating the Python codebase.
